I got an email the other day from a friend about a new website launch called www.threadmaker.co.uk. I haven’t seen Katie in a while so it was really nice to hear her news and then she tells me it’s her website!! I was so excited because setting up on your own isn’t easy, as I know, but I was very impressed with Threadmaker and thought I’d ask her some questions to find out more…
When and how did you come up with the idea for the site?
The idea for ThreadMaker came about earlier this year when wedding season was in full swing and the pressure to find a unique outfit was on! Friends and I have often worried about buying outfits for special events from the high street due to the fear that somebody else there will be wearing exactly the same thing (a cringey scenario most of us have encountered). I wanted to create a shopping destination featuring a carefully edited selection of collections that aren’t available on every high street. I also wanted to offer affordable alternatives to mass market fashion to promote the idea that you don’t have to spend a fortune to buy into unique fashion. And so ThreadMaker was born – a site dedicated to unique and affordable collections from up and coming independent designers.
ThreadMaker features a unique mix of independent designers, and the list of collections is set to grow in 2011! The site has been designed with convenience in mind, so there is an ‘Express Checkout’ which allows shoppers to whiz through the buying process without having to register their details – a unique feature which is handy when shopping during a lunch hour. I love gorgeous packaging, and this has been incorporated into the ThreadMaker shopping experience. ThreadMaker aims to deliver a convenient luxury shopping experience from start to finish, without the expensive price tag.
My favourite item on the site is currently the black vintage inspired lace trim dress by Darling – the perfect day-to-night number. This dress has recently been snapped on a number of celebrities. Fearne Cotton is a devotee of the brand, which takes it’s inspiration from vintage prints. Darling’s mission statement is to bring you luxury on a budget, and this is perfectly succinct with the essence of ThreadMaker.
I’ve just discovered a fab new independent lingerie label called Beautiful Bottoms, which is coming to ThreadMaker soon. The design duo behind the brand, Poppy and Lauren, met whilst studying at Newcastle University and are now based in London. Their latest collection is a stunning range of pure georgette silk bras and knickers featuring flirty frills, silk ties and soft sheer bodies, I can’t wait to start working with them!
Thanks for all the info Katie and Good Luck with Threadmaker! Here are some of my favourite pieces…

Blush nude chiffon dress £75... again really easy to dress up or down - perfect as it is for an occasion and then I would also wear this in the day with thick black tights, chunky boots and a belt for the day
